Sermon 2: 2/9/25

Jonah is Praying to God

Observation of Jonah’s Prayer

  1. Remember: Jonah is where he now is because of his past decisions.
    1. Jonah’s situation is tied to the spiritual principle of sowing and reaping. (Gal. 6:7-8)
    2. All of your life is connected.
  2. Jonah recites his situation. (2:2-7)
    1. Share with God what you have been through – take a cue from the Psalm 130.
    2. Never lose hope. (Jonah 2)
      1. You have a future “I will see the temple again” (v. 4).
      2. You are not alone “my prayer rose to you”. (v. 7)
  3. Jonah makes a vow.
    1. Out of a crisis can come a commitment that is full of conviction. (v. 8)
    2. A crisis can solidify God’s saving acts in our life. (v. 8)

Application:

Can you connect your present status with your prior decisions?

What are the lessons you can learn from this relationship?

How has God provided sufficient care (even though it is not complete relief)?
