Commandment #5 Honor your Father & Mother
This is:
I. A Command for Children of All Ages
Young children honor their parents by obeying them.
Adult children honor their parents by respecting them.
II. A Command for Children of All Parents
We are to honor our parents because they are our parents, not because they are perfect.
Despite our parents’ imperfections, we’re still to honor them.
III. A Command for Children that Has a Promise
Children’s respect for appropriate authority, especially their parents, is a foundation of society.
Honoring your parents not only helps them, it also makes life better for us.
