Putting on the Breastplate of Righteousness

Main Passage Eph. 6:12-14 and Phil 3:8-10 and various others

Main Idea:Satan desires to attack the most vital parts of our lives. To ensure we stay in the fight over the long haul, we must secure critical protection. This refers to the righteousness that is extended to us by Christ, as well as the personal pursuit of moral integrity. But one flows from the other. Christ’s granting us His righteousness has the capacity to produce acts of righteousness on the inside of us. And thus, this righteousness from Christ is superior to human made religion in every conceivable way.

  1.  We self-apply this breastplate of righteousness (Eph6:10-14)
    1. “Righteousness” (δικαιοσύνη dikaiosýnē)
      1. Maintaining a right standing within a relationship, the state of being in a proper relationship, either with God or a community.
  2. This righteousness in salvation is needed since our enemy is often call the accuser 
    1. Revelation 12:10 (Satan is the accuser of Christ-followers)
    2. If Satan can get you to doubt God’s love for you, then he has paralyzed your potential to operate in that love.
  3. This righteousness protects the most vital organs during battle 

Application: Remember a time when you were accused of wrong doing. How did you respond? Remember that when we fail, we do have an advocate 1 John 2:1-2
