Taking the Sword of the Spirit

Main Passage Eph. 6:17

Main Idea:

The final piece of this uniform is God’s word that is delivered to humans by the Holy Spirit. This was both an offensive and defensive weapon to aid us in our service to God.

 

Four Reasons You Can Trust the Bible

  1. Jesus had a high view of Scripture
  2. The text is verified by thousands of Manuscripts
  3. The Bible has been proven to be historically reliable
  4. The central claim is based upon public, eyewitness accounts

Into the Text:

  1. The sword was a shorter one used for hand to hand combat
    1. μάχαιρα-a straight sword used for thrusting, could also be used in hunting and butchering animals
  2. The Word of God (viewed as a sword) is
    1. First and foremost, the proclamation of the Gospel
      1. Sharing the Gospel would be a direct attack on the enemy
